On June 9, 2023, the Lebanon Police Department carried out a series of Alcohol Compliance Checks targeting commercial establishments selling alcohol products within the City of Lebanon. The purpose of this operation was to ensure strict adherence to state laws that prohibit the sale of alcohol to minors. The Lebanon police officers, in collaboration with an underage volunteer, successfully conducted inspections at seven businesses to assess their compliance.
Unfortunately, the results of the compliance checks revealed that three out of the seven businesses had sold alcohol to the underage volunteer. Consequently, the clerks involved in these violations were promptly issued citations to appear in municipal court, where they will face allegations of selling alcohol to a minor. The Lebanon Police Department remains committed to upholding the law and taking appropriate action against those who disregard it.
The Alcohol Compliance Checks were meticulously carried out following procedures approved by the Missouri Division of Alcohol and Tobacco Control, ensuring the integrity and fairness of the operation. Detailed reports on the inspections will be forwarded to the Missouri Division of Alcohol and Tobacco Control for their consideration.
Expressing his disappointment at the findings, Chief Bryan Arnold commented, "We were hoping to find our businesses in 100 percent compliance, so the numbers are disappointing. Underage drinking negatively affects a young person's social and physical well-being. Every summer, communities suffer tragedies involving impaired underage drivers. We will do whatever we can to prevent that from happening to our future leaders. This is just the beginning of our efforts."
