Here is a brief summary of major actions taken by the Lebanon City Council at their January 23rd regular meeting:
✅ Council approved Bill No. 6434 to enter into an agreement with Willard Asphalt Paving, Inc. for the purchase and installation of asphalt for the 2023 calendar year.
Why is this important?
In order to make all the street improvements planned for the upcoming year, it is necessary to have a designated asphalt provider. This agreement will make it possible to get the work done in a timely manner.
✅ Council approved Bill no. 6435 authorizing an agreement between the City and Spark Management Consultants.
What does this mean to me?
Since 2018, the City Council has created goals to steer the City based on feedback from citizen and business surveys. This agreement will continue this method of data collection for the next five years with three resident and three business surveys to be conducted in 2024, 2026 and 2028.
✅ Council approved Bill No. 6437 while will put the legality of the sales of recreational marijuana in the City of Lebanon on the Nov. 5th, 2024 ballot.
What does this mean to the community?
With the passage of Missouri Amendment 3, recreational marijuana is now legal in the state of Missouri. The amendment gave local governments the option to opt out of sales if 60 percent of the voters vote to outlaw the sale in their communities. The earliest this question can be on the ballot is November of 2024. The consensus of council was that with a decision so large, the voters should have the opportunity to decide if they want recreational marijuana to be sold in the City. Regardless of the vote, recreational marijuana will remain legal in the City of Lebanon. The question would be if it is legal to sell it in the city or not.
✅ In other business, Mayor Jared Carr presented a check to the COPE Domestic Violence Shelter for $981 collected from court fees and council appointed Sean Clearbrook to a term on the Lebanon Housing Authority Board ending in February of 2027.
