Gasconade Park Spiller Park Boswell Park
W.T. Vernon Park Nelson Park Atchley Park Harke Park
Wallace Park Palmer Park
(Total Acres: Approximately 200)

The parks are open from 5:00 a.m. until 10:30 p.m. daily.

GASCONADE PARK:
Located at 4th Street and Harrison, Gasconade Park was Lebanon’s first. It goes back in history to the days of the old Gasconade Hotel and the magnetic water that was enjoyed there. The park began to take shape in the early 1940s. Lebanon’s first swimming pool and bathhouse were built there (the pool having since been demolished and filled in).

One shelter was built years ago, and the Lions Club soon added playground equipment. The park currently houses the Hughes Senior Center, for which the City donated land. The park has a quarter-mile walking track, dedicated to Emma LaBlank, who has a long history of serving food to senior citizens in the area.

A second shelter house was built on the foundation of the original bathhouse of the old pool. The park has a nice play area with equipment, a ball field, spectator seating, a concession stand and restrooms. Gasconade Park provides green space for neighborhood children and areas for picnicking for young and old alike.

SPILLER PARK:
Spiller Park is a small neighborhood park on Spiller Street near the water tower. It is a small, quiet green space with playground equipment and picnicking areas.

BOSWELL PARK:
Originally known as Maplecrest Park, this area now bears the name of its largest benefactor. It is located on Historic Route 66. The park includes three shelters for picnicking (reservations may be made through the park office, as for all parks, for a $25 nonrefundable reservation fee.)

The park has one baseball field, spectator seating, concession stand, and new restrooms. Boswell Park also has an outdoor Olympic-sized swimming pool, a fenced play area and plenty of parking.

The Boswell Family donated $100,000 in the late 1970s to provide matching funds to build the outdoor pool. It was then that it was named after James E. Boswell, Jr. (1937-1955).

Boswell Park has a well-utilized one-mile walking trail and is a popular meeting place for young people to play ball. It also includes two lighted tennis courts and an outdoor basketball court. Ample parking is provided.

W.T. VERNON PARK:
Vernon Park is located in the Original Town part of Lebanon on Greenleaf Street. It has one shelter for picnics and green space to play.

NELSON PARK:
Bordered by Maple Lane, Bland Road, and Kent Drive, Nelson Park offers four softball and baseball fields, a concession stand, restrooms, two lighted tennis courts, a small fishing pond for senior citizens or kids under 16 years of age. The ducks on the pond are always in search of a hand-out. There is also a multi-purpose field (for Mighty Mite football), new bathroom facilities for that area and a new concession stand. There is spectator seating, plenty of parking, lots of green space and two shelter houses connected by a fenced play area for child safety.

Nelson Park includes Nelson Education Center, which houses satellite classes for Drury University, Ozarks Technical College, and Southwest Missouri State University. This building has been expanded twice in the past two years to its present size of 36,000 square feet.

Landscaping is simple and pleasing for families, company picnics, birthday parties and the like.

ATCHLEY PARK:
Atchley Park is located on North Highway 5, next to the Church of the Nazarene. Atchley Park has two new baseball fields, in addition to two softball fields. The park also has restrooms, two park shelters, a fenced playground with new equipment and plenty of shade, as well as the park maintenance building. There are entrances at the back and front of the park, but no “through” traffic. Ample parking is provided. Several weddings are scheduled each year at the gazebo (Pickering Pavilion). It is also perfect for small concerts.

A building in the park houses the Laclede County Genealogical Society. There is a well-used walking trail that is 1.25 miles long. The city leases and maintains the property behind the church for league practices.

HARKE PARK:
One of newest parks, named in honor of the generosity of Walter and Rene Harke, is located on National just off Fremont Road. It includes a half-mile paved walking track, which has become very popular. The park also has a beautiful gazebo, play areas with state-of-the-art playground equipment, restrooms (heated in winter) and picnic areas.

WALLACE PARK:
Lebanon's newest park was the result of a gift from St. John's/Breech Medical Center after a new hospital replaced Wallace Hospital on Harwood Avenue. The land from the old hospital was given to the City, and most of the building was demolished. Remaining is a very fine, completely renovated community center and a maintenance office.

Wallace Park also has beautiful new playground equipment and a small gazebo for picknicking. Additional amenities are planned.

PALMER PARK:
Palmer Park is a lovely greenspace located on the southern side of the Civic Center property.

The area contains a gazebo that is a popular picnic spot, and it is a good relaxation place after a walk on the trail surrounding the Civic Center.
