Support Teams & Units
Canine Division
The Canine Division is staffed with three full-time federally and state
certified K-9 German Shepherd dogs trained in narcotics detection,
tracking, protection and crowd control. The division is supervised by a
Sergeant who maintains the scheduling and monthly training for his
division.
Animal Control Officers
The
Animal Control Officers of the Department are responsible for the
impoundment, kenneling, and processing of stray, unwanted, and dangerous
animals; the investigation and prosecution of animal cruelty
complaints; and the investigation of animal bite complaints. The Animal
Control Officers work in conjunction with the Humane Society and local
area veterinarians.
Traffic Division
The
Traffic Division is comprised of three Squads which cover the Lebanon
community with 24-hour policing. Each squad is headed by a Watch
Commander with the rank of Lieutenant and a Squad Supervisor with the
rank of Sergeant. The Traffic Division is responsible for enforcement
of all state, local, and city traffic violations. A Motorcycle Unit
supports the Traffic Division with special assignments.
Crime Scene Investigation Unit
The
Crime Scene Investigations (CSI) Unit employs four state certified
crime scene investigators. The CSI Unit is a 24-hour operational team
that provides crime scene processing for crimes against persons and
crimes against property. The CSI Unit has a fully equipped operations
vehicle which maintains all technical support products to properly
process crime scenes in a timely fashion. This special unit provides
our citizens with expeditious services, exhibits the department’s
professional capabilities, enhances the effectiveness of the Lebanon
Police Department in solving crimes, and increases community relations.
Hostage Negotiations Team
The
Hostage Negotiations Team is assigned under special assignments. The
hostage negotiators respond on a 24-hour basis to all crisis
intervention incidents that include but are not limited to all suicide
attempts, hostage situations, and barricaded suspects. This support
unit is assigned to the Special Response Team that is currently under
reorganization.
Drug Interdiction Team
The
Drug Interdiction Team is a specialized narcotic unit within the
Lebanon Police Department. The team consists of veteran officers who
center their duties on narcotic traffickers and asset forfeiture
proceedings.
Interpreter Unit
The
Interpreter Unit consists of three (3) Spanish speaking officers. The
officers are essential to the daily operations of the department with
the influx of Mexican Americans migrating to Lebanon and traveling
through the City. They also provide officer safety factors with their
capabilities and play a vital role during all interviews and
interrogations or investigations.
Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force of Missouri
With
the increase of Internet crimes against children, exploited children,
and the modern slave trade, the Lebanon Police Department became a
member of the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force of Missouri. A detective from the LPD is assigned to the task force exclusively to combat these crimes.
Auto Theft Specialist
With
the rising thefts of vehicles, odometer turn-backs, and fraudulent VIN
re-tagging, the LPD has stepped up efforts to combat these crimes.
