As a progressive and innovative department, and to maintain the ethical standards of the Missouri POST Commission, the Chief of Police formed an independent, specialized bureau. The Deputy Chief of Police is assigned as the Commander of the Bureau of Professional Standards.

The Bureau of Professional Standards is designed to conduct internal investigations and criminal investigations alleged against commissioned and non-commissioned department employees.
