We Invite You to Come and
Make Our Town Your Town!

Lebanon, the county seat of Laclede County, will celebrate its 130th birthday this fall. Known in the Ozarks as a progressive community with a healthy manufacturing base, Lebanon has a rich history. From its early days, Lebanon was a tourist mecca. In the early 1890s, vacationers flocked to the Gasconade Hotel, where one could bathe in the City's "magnetic water" touted for its healing properties.

Lebanon, first known as Wyota after the Indians who lived here, was re-named after Lebanon, TN.

Located in south-central Missouri on the edge of the Ozarks, Lebanon straddles Interstate 44. Route 66, the Mother Road, also bisects Lebanon, making it a popular stop for nostalgia buffs. The Burlington-Northern Railway and the city's Floyd W. Jones Airport complete this transportation link.

Our population is 12,155. As county seat, Lebanon provides numerous employment, shopping and recreational opportunities. Lebanon has a variety of established industries that provide good jobs for our residents. Workers here produce scroll refrigeration compressors, electric motors, electric breaker boxes, tools and dies, whiskey barrels, fishing boats and other items. In 1983, then-Governor Kit Bond dubbed Lebanon the "Aluminum Fishing Boat Capital of the World."

After passage of a $14.5 million bond issue, the Lebanon R-III School District built the new Esther Elementary School and made improvements to several existing buildings. For higher education, Lebanon operates the Nelson Education Center, which hosts classes from Drury University, Southwest Missouri State University and Ozarks Technical College.

Lebanon has an expanding state-of-the art hospital, St. John's-Lebanon, with doctors' facilities, pharmacy and ambulance service on campus. Lebanon also has several comfortable nursing homes and assisted-care facilities.

Explore our recreational opportunities by clicking on (at left) Cowan Civic Center, City Parks, or our tourism link at the end of this piece. And be sure to visit nearby Bennett Spring State Park to enjoy trout fishing, camping and picnicking. Annually, we join Bennett Spring in celebrating Hillbilly Days the third weekend in June.

The citizens of Lebanon are very proud of our town. We hope you will say we live up to our motto, "Friendly People. Friendly Place."
